The Norwood Football Netball Club has a proud history of community, development, and achievement across both football and netball. Founded in 1960 by Mr. David Jamieson, a teacher at Norwood High School, the club was born from a desire to provide sporting opportunities for youth in North Ringwood. What began with junior football teams competing in the Ferntree Gully Football League quickly evolved, as the club outgrew its humble school-based beginnings and relocated to Mullum Reserve in 1971.
Early premierships in the junior ranks—Under 16 in 1965 and Under 14 in 1968—marked Norwood as a club with potential. By 1972, Norwood became a founding member of the Eastern District Football League (EDFL), and in 1974, it gained sole occupancy of Mullum Reserve. The construction of social rooms in 1975 elevated the club’s reputation, helping to make Norwood one of the most respected clubs in the league.
Senior football success followed with premierships in 1982 and 1989. In 1985, the club was officially incorporated under the Associations Incorporation Act, and in 1991, the Norwood Sporting Club was formed—bringing Football and Cricket under one umbrella for mutual growth. The 1990s also saw a junior resurgence, fuelled by the formation of the Norwood Auskick program and capped by multiple junior premierships.
Further milestones included senior premierships in 1999 and 2003, promotion to higher divisions, and the appointment of former AFL player Brett Ratten as Senior Coach in 2006. In 2007, Norwood stepped up to First Division, and after years of persistence, the club achieved its most significant football success—winning the First Division EFL Grand Final in 2014.
Netball Program: Building a Stronger Club Together
Norwood Netball was re-established in 2023 with just three teams and a bold vision: to create a program rooted in community connection, player development, and a unified club culture built on respect, integrity, and inclusion. In a short time, the program has grown rapidly and demonstrated consistent success—both on and off the court.
By 2024, Norwood proudly fielded four competitive netball teams across Divisions 3, 5, 7, and 9, showcasing not only the club’s depth of talent but also its commitment to developing players across all levels. A standout moment came when our Division 3 team was crowned 2024 Winter Premiers—a reflection of the dedication and hard work of our players, coaches, and support staff.
A Club for All
Norwood offers inclusive sporting pathways for all ages and abilities, with opportunities from Auskick and junior netball through to senior competition across male and female teams. Our “develop from within” approach has built a strong sense of loyalty, with many players proudly calling Norwood home throughout their sporting journeys.
We are more than just a club—we are a vibrant community united by a passion for sport, growth, and connection. As we continue to evolve and expand, Norwood remains committed to delivering excellence, nurturing talent, and providing a place where everyone belongs.
