Seniors

Coaches report

This week we played another of last years finalists in Doncaster East.

We had 2 more senior debutants in Sam Plut and Bailey O’Riley as well as Josh Tovey playing his first senior game for us.

We knew that Doncaster East would respond to a performance lower than their normal level the previous week and they did in the first quarter.

They were able to link up and at times left us standing at stoppages and were able to hurt us in the scoreboard and took a comfortable 5 goal lead to quarter time. We also lost Gysberts and Chris Tibb in the first 20 minutes of the game.

From there we adapted and played much better. We were strong at the contest during the second quarter and had the better of the play but failed to convert on the scoreboard with a few pretty easy misses.

After half time we swung some things around with Tovey proving to be a good target for us forward (3 of our 5 goals) and Milford going forward too.

Denver Lund continued his competitiveness in the ruck ftom the previous week and whilst we won the 3rd quarter we didn’t quite transfer momentum in the game to scores.

In the last we kept coming but just left ourselves too much to do against a quality opponent with a lot of top end talent. Our boys didn’t stop trying though which is evidence by 95 total tackles.

Our better players in addition to ones already mentioned would be Josh Wall in strong role of half back, Jackson Winter good game and Hayden Paterson continues to demonstrate he is a very good midfielder at this level.

Jos Landy followed up his game of the previous week showing speed and intent around stoppages and Plut in his first game did a good job on the opposition captain as a small back after he hurt us with a couple of goals early.

There continues to be super competitiveness from the group. We have improved each week but just haven’t been able to string 4 quarters together yet. I thought the effort was excellent yesterday and was disappointed for the players that such strong effort was not able to be converted at times with fumbling and skill errors going inside 50 which we will continue to practice and improve.

Coaches report

It was great to be back home again this week, but unfortunately, fell just short of an East Doncaster side. We hit the ground at snails pace which put us behind from the beginning.

After we made our way back, it was an arm wrestle for much of the game. Riley Williams (BOG) was on fire through the back half with his 2nd and 3rd efforts, and around the ground and gave us the grunt we needed to put ourselves in a good position to have a crack in the last quarter. Our focus of ball movement, using our runners and pressure was once again great to see.

We did so much right all over the ground, but once again probably just let ourselves down in front of goal. Having 10 more inside 50s in the last quarter meant that losing by 1 point was frustrating.

Special mention to Riley, Jez and Noary who led the charge all day through the middle. We now have the week off and will reset for the week after.

We work hard, train to improve, and keep positive.
